How to Replace the Throttle Body in a Saturn VUE
by Editorial TeamThe Saturn Vue was the first "homegrown entry" by Saturn and General Motors into the small, car-based SUV market. The Saturn Vue offers a roomy cabin, extensive options and an attractive pricetag. Saturn paid close attention to consumer responses and improved the Saturn accordingly. The following guide the do-it-yourself repairperson through the installation of the throttle body in the 3.0L engine.
Remove the Throttle Body
Step 1
Make sure the engine and all components are completely cool. Disconnect the battery ground. Then isolate it to avoid accidental contact with the terminal while installing the throttle body.
Step 2
Loosen the clamp on the air cleaner assembly and the throttle body assembly. Take off the fasteners that old the outlet resonator duct assembly on its bracket.
Step 3
Lift off the outlet resonator duct assembly. Drape a clean shop rag over the opening to prevent debris from falling into the manifold. Use the shop air hose to disengage any dirt or carbon deposits that collects around the base of the throttle body.
Step 4
Pull the electrical connector from the throttle body, then disengage the positive crankcase vent (PCV) air hose. Take off the vacuum lines for the purge and the PCV.
Step 5
Clamp the coolant hoses before removing them to prevent leakage. Remove the coolant hoses.
Step 6
Take off the bolts that hold the throttle body in place. Lift the throttle body off the manifold.
Install the Throttle Body
Step 1
Lift the shop rag carefully from the throttle body opening so that debris on the cloth does not fall into the manifold. Set a new throttle body gasket in place.
Step 2
Position the throttle body on the manifold. Put the bolts in place and torque them to 66 inch pounds.
Step 3
Reattach the hoses to the throttle body and then remove the clamps. Attach the hoses for the PCV fresh air and vacuum. Connect the electrical connector to the throttle body.
Step 4
Put the outlet resonator duct assembly in place, then tighten the clamp. Set the outlet resonator duct assembly on the support bracket and torque the fasteners to 89 inch lbs.
Step 5
Secure the clamp on the air cleaner assembly. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten the terminal bolt to 13 foot pounds.
Step 6
Complete the automatic relearn procedure for the Engine Control Module. Set the ignition to RUN for 1 minute to complete the relearn process.
Things You'll Need
- Mechanic's toolset, including a full socket set, wrenches and screwdrivers
- Torque wrench
