How to Remove a Honda Shadow Starter

by Nathaniel Miller

The Honda Shadow Motorcycle is a midsize cruiser. It performs well as a daily commuter, weekend cruiser or even a long distance comfort bike and has relatively few maintenance jobs. However, every once and awhile, there will be a part that fails. If that part happens to be your starter, it could strand you. Learn how to remove the starter on your Shadow so that you can eventually replace it if need be.

Step 1

Use the screwdriver to unscrew and remove the mounting bolts on the front primary body shroud. Locate the wires running from the start switch on the handlebar down to the solenoid and starter.

Step 2

Unhook the wiring harness and use the crescent wrenches to remove the mounting bolts and slide the starter out of its perch.

Step 3

Slide the new starter into place and mount it tightly by tightening the bolts back down with the crescent wrenches. Reconnect the wiring harness and then put the plastic shroud back in place and secure with the mounting screws.
