How to Locate a Ford Taurus ECU ECM Computer
by Allen MooreThe onboard computer on the Ford Taurus is the heart of the power train control system. The computer provides information for the fuel system, emissions system, engine management system and transmission. The computer also monitors each of these systems and, in the event of a malfunction, generates a diagnostic trouble code. When the computer stores the code, it turns on the check engine light to alert the driver of the malfunction. Locating the Ford Taurus computer is easy for anyone familiar with the engine bay.
Step 1
Pull the hood latch to open the hood.
Step 2
Prop the hood up to access the engine.
Step 3
Look underneath the Taurus' cowl for a rectangular silver box with the main engine harness plugged into the back of it. This box is the Taurus' computer.
