Founded in 1868 by John Deere, Deere and Company began manufacturing tractors in 1918. The original John Deere 165 was produced from 1986 to 1988 and is a lawn tractor. John Deere also has a line of 2010 lawn tractors called the 100 Series of which the LA165 is part.
John Deere 165
The John Deere 165 was produced over 2 decades ago. It has a Kawasaki gasoline engine with 1 cylinder and natural aspiration. The bore and stroke measures 3.5 by 2.91 inches, it has a 0.5 liter displacement and 12.5 horsepower. It uses air cooling, has 3,350 rated RPMs and an oil capacity of 1.8 liters.
This lawn tractor has a hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The chassis is a 4x2 2-wheel drive, the cab is an open operator station and the electrical ground is negative.
2010 LA165 Engine, Transmission and Chassis
The 2010 model of the 165 lawn tractor is considerably more powerful than the original, with a 24 horsepower Briggs and Stratton engine. It has a 44.2 cubic inch displacement, V-twin cylinders and it is part of the Extended Life series. It has a 16 amp regulated charging system, one lever speed control and a 4-gallon fuel tank located in the rear of the tractor.
The transmission is a 2-pedal, foot-controlled hydro with cruise control. The maximum forward speed is 5.5 miles per hour and the maximum reverse speed is 3.2 miles per hour. It has a full-length welded steel frame with a cast iron front axle. The chassis includes floor mats, a Cargo Mount System, storage pocket, hour meter, service interval decal, tool tray and cup holder.
2010 LA165 Steering, Seat, Lift and Mower
This model has an 18-inch turning radius and a 15-inch seat back height with the lumbar adjustment. The lift system has a mower cut height of 1.4 inches with cut height increments of 0.25 inches. The mower has a cutting width of 48 inches and deck material of .105 inches. It has easy-level deck level adjustment, an electric PTO drive system and a wash port. The front and rear draft arms are spring pin.
2010 LA165 Dimensions and Optional Attachments
The 2010 version of the 165 John Deere lawn tractor measures 75.3 inches in length, 60.3 inches in width and 46.8 inches in height. It has a wheelbase of 48.9 inches and it weighs 528 pounds. Optional attachments for this model include a material collection system, mulching system, lawn striping kit, snow blade, blower and cab, a front bumper, sun canopy and a bucket holder. It currently sells for $2,549, according to John Deere.
