How to Install a Serpentine Belt on an Oldsmobile Intrigue
by Robert KohnkeThe serpentine belt in the Oldsmobile Intrigue is an essential piece to an intricately running engine. It provides power from the pistons to other key parts of the engine including the alternator, air conditioner and water pump. The serpentine belt is a sturdy piece of rubber that is rarely damaged. However, it should be checked every few weeks for cracks closer than 3 inches apart or rubbing/wearing on an particular spots.
Step 1
Locate the belt tensioner pulley, which is directly below the alternator on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is a shiny, metallic pulley with the serpentine belt running across it.
Step 2
Insert the socket wrench into the square hole in the pulley. Apply downward pressure on the wrench to move the pulley and remove tension from the belt.
Step 3
Remove the belt from the pulley and then the other components. Release the socket wrench.
Step 4
Wind the new belt through the components as indicated by the belt diagram in the engine compartment. Apply force to the wrench to move the pulley and put the belt on the pulley last. Release the wrench, and tension will return to the belt.
