How to Give My Motorcycle Pipes a Deeper Sound

by Zyon Silket

All motorcycle exhaust pipes yield a unique sound. The tone depends on the length, diameter and the material the manufacturer used to make the pipes. Engine displacement also plays a role in the overall exhaust note from your motorcycle. Fortunately, if you want to make your pipes sound deeper, you can do so without permanent modifications. Most mid- to high-priced pipes have removable baffles.

Step 1

Locate the small nut on the bottom of your exhaust pipe approximately 10-inches from the end of the tail pipe. The nut connects to a bolt that holds the baffle into place.

Step 2

Remove the baffle-retaining nut with a wrench and push the bolt upward and into the tail pipe. The bolt will stay in the baffle.

Step 3

Place a long flathead screwdriver into the end of the tail pipe and use it to pull the metal baffle out of the tailpipe. The bolt should come out with it. If it does not, use a telescoping magnet to remove the bolt.
