The fuel filter protects your Impala's engine from sediment and other impurities that find their way into your fuel. Without a fuel filter, your Chevrolet Impala would constantly sputter while idling because of the broken flow of fuel into your engine.

Filter Location

The Chevrolet Impala's fuel filter can be found underneath the Impala on the passenger's side. It is mounted on the frame just in front of the fuel tank.

Significance

The fuel filter is in front of the fuel tank because it is the first line of defense between the engine and impurities that settle out of the fuel and into the fuel tank. When the fuel exits the fuel tank and through the fuel filter, the engine is supplied with filtered fuel thereafter.

Warning

The Impala could theoretically run without the filter. But over time, the engine would be affected negatively by sediment and impurities in the gasoline, as well as corrosion from the tank itself.
