How do I Open My Lexus LS460 With a Dead Key Fob?
by Leonardo R. GrabkowskiLate model Lexus vehicles, including the LS460, use what Lexus refers to as a Smart Key system. This system lets you start the engine by pressing a button, as long as the Smart Key is inside the vehicle. With this system, you use the buttons on the key to unlock the doors and enter the vehicle. However, a time may come when the Smart Key battery dies. When this happen, you'll need to use the backup option to unlock and enter your Lexus LS460.
Step 1
Examine the bottom half of your Lexus Smart Key carefully. You'll see the edge of the metal key protruding.
Step 2
Grasp the edge with your fingers and pull the backup key out of the Smart Key fob. You can use this metal key to open the door.
Step 3
Approach the driver's side door. Look on the handle for the key cylinder. Insert the key and turn it to the left to unlock the door.

Tips
- Some trim packages may have a small chrome cover over the keyhole. If this is the case, use the edge of the metal key to pry the cover off.
