Chevy Tahoe: Towing Specifications

The Chevrolet Tahoe is a sports utility vehicle that has been in production since 1992. The first generation of the Tahoe was produced from 1992 until 2000 while the second generation was produced from 2000 until 2006. Production of the current Tahoe began in 2007. As all three generations of the Tahoe are available with a variety of different engines, the towing specifications vary depending on the engine and generation of the particular Tahoe.
First Generation Tahoe
The first generation Tahoe equipped with four-wheel drive and the 5300 V8 has a maximum towing capacity of 7,100 pounds when fitted with the 4.10 axle ratio. Two-wheel drive Tahoe's of this generation have a maximum towing capacity of 7,800 pounds if the optional 3.73 axle ratio is paired with the 5300 V8. Base model two-wheel drive models have a maximum capacity of 6,700 pounds while base model four-wheel drive Tahoe's have a maximum capacity of 6,800 pounds
Second Generation Tahoe
Second generation Tahoe's equipped with four-wheel drive and the 5300 V8 have a maximum towing capacity of 8,800 pounds when fitted with the 4.10 axle ratio. Two-wheel drive Tahoe's of this generation have a maximum towing capacity of 8,100 pounds when equipped with the 5300 V8 and the 3.73 axle ratio. Base model two-wheel drive models have a maximum capacity of 6,100 pounds while base model four-wheel drive Tahoe's have a maximum capacity of 6,800 pounds.
Current Generation Tahoe
The current generation of Chevy Tahoe has a maximum towing capacity of 8,100 pounds when the Tahoe is equipped with two-wheel drive and the 6000 V8 engine or the 5300 V8 engine with the 4.10 axle ratio. Four wheel drive Tahoe's with the 5300 V8 engine have a maximum towing capacity of 8,000 pounds when fitted with the 3.73 axle ratio. Base model two-wheel drive Tahoe's have a maximum towing capacity of 6,200 pounds while the base model four-wheel drive model can tow up to 7,700 pounds.
