How to Adjust the Acura Tl Brake Light Switch
by Jess KrollThe brake light switch of the Acura TI activates when the brake pedal is applied, signaling the rear brake light to turn on. If a brake light is failing to turn on while the brake is applied it may be a sign that the brake light switch has stopped working and should be adjusted or replaced. The Acura Tl brake light switch is located near the top of the brake pedal, under the dashboard.
Step 1
Disconnect the negative battery terminal under the Acura's hood. Place the connector cable in such a way that avoids contact any metal objects in the engine. This minimizes the chance of electric shock.
Step 2
Located the brake light switch at the top of the arm of the brake pedal, where the arm connects to the dashboard.
Step 3
Unscrew the two Phillips-head screws that hold the dashboard panel in place. Remove the panel to access the pedal's electrical components.
Step 4
Make sure the electrical wiring to the switch is intact or remove the two mounting screws to detach the switch. If replacing the switch, then detach the writing, attach a new brake light switch and mount the switch in the same way as the previous one.
Step 5
Reconnect the negative battery cable before testing the switch adjustment or replacement. Once the problem is fixed, secure the dashboard panel back into position.
