How to Troubleshoot Keyless Entry for a Hyundai

A Hyundai keyless entry system makes life a little easier by allowing you to lock or unlock the doors of your vehicle from a distance. However, if the keyless entry system on your Hyundai stops working, you don't have to call a Hyundai dealership or service center for a replacement just yet. In most cases, these simple troubleshooting tips will have your Hyundai keyless entry system working again in just minutes.

Step 1

Wipe the outside of your Hyundai keyless entry remote with a soft cloth that has been dampened in warm water to remove any built up dirt or grime. Clean around each of the buttons on your remote to prevent them from sticking.

Step 2

Replace the battery in your Hyundai keyless entry remote. Fit a guitar pick or coin into the groove on the side of the remote; work it around until the remote separates into two pieces. Pry the battery out of the battery compartment and dispose of it; insert a new battery. Align the two halves of the keyless entry remote and snap them back together.

Step 3

Clean the battery contacts inside your Hyundai keyless entry remote to remove dirt or corrosive build-up. Open the remote as described in Step 2 and take out the battery to reveal the battery contacts. Use a cotton swab dipped in white vinegar to wipe the contacts clean. Remove any vinegar or corrosion residue with a dry cotton swab. Reinsert the battery and reassemble the keyless entry remote.

Step 4

Resynchronize the keyless entry remote to the electrical system of your Hyundai vehicle. Note that the programming instructions for Hyundai keyless entry remotes can vary quite a bit between vehicle models.
