Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the snowmobile company Skidoo used Rotax engines in their sleds. In 1972, Skidoo equipped their sleds with a variety of Rotax engines, including the Rotax 292, 340, 400, 440, 640 and 775. Rotax makes engines for a range of vehicles, including snowmobiles, motorcycles, boats, ATVs and even aircrafts.

T'NT 292

The 1972 Skidoo T'NT 292 used a Rotax 292 engine. This engine featured a single-cylinder, center-mounted design. The total piston displacement measured 291.6 cc. The bore by stroke measured 2.95 inches by 2.59 inches, and the engine had a total power capacity of 20 horsepower. The fuel system featured a single Tillotson HD22B carburetor. The sprocket ratio measured 15-to-34, and the ignition system utilized a Magneto design. Skidoo used a 6.25-gallon fuel tank with this engine, and the gasoline-to-oil ratio measured 20-to-1.

T'NT 340

A larger T'NT model, the 340, used the Rotax 343 engine. This engine featured a twin-cylinder, center-mounted design. Total piston displacement measured 339.2 cc, and the bore by stroke measured 2.34 inches by 2.40 inches. Maximum power output on this engine was 28 horsepower. The fuel system used a single Tillotson HD98A carburetor. The sprocket ratio was 16-to-34, and the ignition system featured a magneto design.

T'NT 400

Some 1972 Skidoos came with a Rotax 398 engine. This engine used a twin-cylinder, center-mounted design. Total piston displacement measured 393.6 cc, and the max power output measured 40 horsepower. The bore by stroke measured 2.53 inches by 2.40 inches. The fuel system utilized two Tillotson HD104A carburetors. The sprocket ratio was 18-to-34. The engine cooling system used a free-air design, and the ignition system used a magneto system.

T'NT 440

Another engine Skidoo snowmobiles featured in 1972 was the Rotax 435. The Rotax 435 had a total piston displacement of 436.6 cc. The engine used a twin-cylinder, center-mounted design. The bore by stroke measured 2.65 inches by 2.40 inches, and the engine's total power output capability was 38 horsepower. The fuel system used a single Tillotson HD83A or Tillotson HR112A carburetor. This engine model used a fan cooled engine-cooling system.

T'NT 640

In 1972, some Skidoo snowmobiles featured a Rotax 641 engine. This engine used a twin-cylinder, center-mounted design. Total piston displacement measured 635.1 cc, and the total power output was 41 horsepower. The bore by stroke measured 2.99 inches by 2.75 inches. The fuel system used dual Tillotson HD20B or Tillotson HD81A carburetors. The sprocket ratio was 20-to-34, and the ignition system used a magneto design.

T'NT 775

Another Skidoo engine in 1972 was the Rotax 775. This engine was the largest available in any Skidoo snowmobile in 1972. The engine utilized a twin-cylinder, center-mounted design. Total piston displacement measured 771 cc, and the peak power output was 52 horsepower. The bore by stroke measured 3.22 inches by 2.87 inches. The fuel system used two Tillotson HD20B carburetors, and the ignition system used a magneto design. The sprocket ratio was 22-to-34.
