How to Replace Headlights on a Jaguar X-Type

by Alibaster Smith

The Jaguar X-type is a British luxury car known for its compact size and luxury styling. The X-type was introduced in 2001 to compete against other high-end luxury vehicles like BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The X-type uses a simple headlight housing mechanism to contain the headlights and bulbs. Over time, heat and cold can cause seal failure and moisture to build up inside the housing. If the seal failure is significant, water can become trapped inside the housing, causing the bulb to explode when you turn it on. If this happens, it's time to replace the headlights.

Remove the screw bolts holding the front bumper cover in place with either a socket wrench or a screwdriver, and pull the cover down.

Remove the bolts holding the headlamp assembly in place with a socket wrench. Remove the headlight housing assembly.

Remove the retaining clip on the headlamp washer hose by pinching both ends of the clip together and pulling it back on the hose. You may need a pair of pliers to help you pinch the clip together. Pull the headlamp washer hose off.

Unplug the electrical connector running to the headlight assembly.

Unbolt the headlight washer motor unit and pull it out.

Install the new headlight housing unit. Installation is the reverse of removal.
