How to Replace Idle Air Control on an Isuzu Trooper
by Alibaster SmithThe idle air control on an Isuzu Trooper is a valve that opens and closes to meter the air flowing into the throttle at idle. When the Trooper is not idling properly, this is a major cause. There is no service life for the idle air control valve, so you replace it only when the idle begins to fluctuate wildly. The fluctuating idle indicates a complete failure of the valve.
Step 1
Disconnect the negative cable running to the negative battery terminal. Loosen the retaining nut on the negative lead and slide the clamp off the battery terminal.
Step 2
Open the hood and locate the idle air control valve on the side of the throttle body in the rear of the engine.
Step 3
Remove the electrical plug running to the idle air control. The electrical plug simply pulls out of the electrical terminal on the control valve.
Step 4
Remove the two screws holding the control valve to the throttle.
Step 5
Install the new idle air control valve. Align the mounting holes on the valve with the mounting holes on the throttle. Thread and tighten the screws. Then, reconnect the electrical connector and reconnect the battery.
