How to Repair a Windshield With Liquid Resin

by Stephanie Temperino

You can fix a cracked windshield without the help of a professional, but you need the right supplies. Liquid resin is one of the best remedies for a damaged windshield because of its adhesive strength and ability to blend into the glass; which makes it difficult to tell that a repair has been made. You can purchase the liquid resin and other supplies from most auto stores.

Combine the water and detergent in a bucket, stir with the sponge until sudsy, and wash down the windshield.

Apply a light coating of denatured alcohol to the damage using a soft cloth, and let it dry naturally.

Put your goggles on so you do not get liquid resin or glass shards in your eyes. Use the razor to carefully remove any loose shards of glass within the crack so that the repair will look as clean as possible.

Fill the adhesive syringe with liquid resin. Be sure to follow the directions on the resin bottle for the best application results.

Administer the resin to the crack. Begin at the largest area and end at the smallest.

Wait until the resin dries, which may be a few hours, and then use the razor blade edge to scrape the dried resin off of the surface of the windshield. You have filled up the crack.
