Sometimes, a simple cleaning of a car's windshield wiper nozzles will not repair a spraying problem. You will need to remove the windshield washer nozzles and replace them with new ones. It is a good idea to take the old ones to the auto parts store to match them for replacements. The most common windshield spray nozzles will pull out of their holding pocket. The hose that attaches to them will come up through the hole so you can disconnect the nozzle from the hose.

Step 1

Grasp the nozzle with a pair of needle-nose pliers, if your nozzles attach to the hood of the car. Wiggle the nozzle back and forth while lifting with the pliers.

Step 2

Pull the nozzle straight up after it clears the hood to expose the hose. Grasp the hose with one hand and twist the nozzle out of the hose.

Step 3

Insert a small flathead screwdriver between one side of the nozzle and the windshield grille, if your nozzle is on the windshield grille below the wiper blades.

Step 4

Pry the side of the nozzle up until the clip clears the grille. Insert another small flathead screwdriver under the nozzle to prevent the nozzle from reconnecting while you finish removing the nozzle.

Step 5

Place the first screwdriver in between the other side of the nozzle and the windshield grille. Pry the side up until the clip clears the grille. Pull the nozzle up to expose the hose. Twist the nozzle off the hose.
