How to Remove the Starter From a Honda FourTrax 300

Removing the starter on the Honda FourTrax 300 is a job that you can complete in about half an hour. The starter on this off-road Honda ATV is under the seat and easily accessible. It is attached with just a couple of bolts. You can save time and money by removing the starter yourself.

Things You'll Need:

  • Wood block
  • Open-end wrench
  • Socket wrench set

1. Set the parking brake on the Honda FourTrax 300

Set the parking brake on the Honda FourTrax 300. Place a wood block behind one of the rear tires to prevent it from rolling while you are removing the starter.

2. Turn off the ignition switch

Turn off the ignition switch. Detach the negative cable from the battery post with an open-end wrench.

3. Take the rubber cap off the top of the starter

Take the rubber cap off the top of the starter. Unfasten the nut that secures the starter motor cable to the starter, using a socket wrench. Remove the nut and cable from the top of the starter.

4. Unfasten the two mounting bolts

Unfasten the two mounting bolts that secure the starter to the vehicle frame, using a socket wrench. Remove the starter motor and cable guide from the engine of the Honda FourTrax 300.

Warning

Always keep the ignition switch in the "off" position before attempting to remove the Honda FourTrax 300 starter.
