by Carl Pruit

Removing the starter on the Honda FourTrax 300 is a job that you can complete in about half an hour. The starter on this off-road Honda ATV is under the seat and easily accessible. It is attached with just a couple of bolts. You can save time and money by removing the starter yourself.

Step 1

Set the parking brake on the Honda FourTrax 300. Place a wood block behind one of the rear tires to prevent it from rolling while you are removing the starter.

Step 2

Turn off the ignition switch. Detach the negative cable from the battery post with an open-end wrench.

Step 3

Take the rubber cap off the top of the starter. Unfasten the nut that secures the starter motor cable to the starter, using a socket wrench. Remove the nut and cable from the top of the starter.

Unfasten the two mounting bolts that secure the starter to the vehicle frame, using a socket wrench. Remove the starter motor and cable guide from the engine of the Honda FourTrax 300.
