How to Remove Corner Car Dents

by Jenny Carver

Removing dents from cars is something most people don't try in their driveway, but it is not that difficult. Most dents occur on the fender or flat side of a car and are simple and easy to repair. Dents on the corner of your vehicle look more complicated to repair. Repairing dents on the corners is easily done within a few hours by using some materials found at your local automotive parts store.

Step 1

Sand the dent with 180-grit sandpaper. Sand inside and around the edges of the dent to remove the paint. Once the paint is removed, use the plastic squeegee to place a thick coat of body filler in the dent. Fill the dent with the body filler and add another coat on the top so that the dent can no longer be seen and the filler is spread onto the surrounding edges of the dent. Let the filler dry for one hour.

Step 2

Use the 180-grit sandpaper to sand the filler smooth with the surrounding surface of the car. Go over the area again, using the 220-grit sandpaper, which smooths the scratches made by the harsh 180-grit sandpaper. Wipe the area with wax and grease remover and a microfiber cloth. Place masking paper and tape around the repaired area so overspray won't land on it.

Step 3

Spray a thick coat of primer over the area that has filler. Let the primer dry for 30 minutes and then sand it smooth with 300-grit sandpaper. Wipe it again with wax-and-grease remover, using the microfiber towel.

Step 4

Cover all of the area with three to four thin coats of paint. Hold the can 6 to 8 inches away from the surface. Keep the coats thin to avoid runs. Wait 10 minutes between each coat. Spray three to four thin coats of clear coat paint, using the same techniques as when spraying the color paint. Wait one full day before handling the area.
