If the brake lights on your Toyota Camry stop working and the fuse and bulbs test positive, the problem may lie in the brake light switch. The brake light switch is a device that powers up your brake lights when you depress the brake pedal. One sign that the switch may be bad is if all of your brake lights go off at once. Typically, if the problem is with the brake light bulb, only one bulb will burn out at a time. You will have to remove the old brake light switch in order to install a new one.

Step 1

Pop your hood, and remove the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

Step 2

Open the driver's side door and look under the dashboard near the brake pedal. Your brake light switch is located here.

Step 3

Press in the two tabs on the side of the switch's wiring harness, and pull it off of the switch.

Step 4

Press the switch in slightly, and turn it counterclockwise by hand until it comes free.
