How to Replace the Headlights on Ford Cars

The headlights on your Ford car should be checked every six months to make sure that the headlights are functioning normally. Ideally, replacement of the headlights should be done during the day; however, this is not always possible. Replacement headlights Ford car the Ford car can be purchased from most auto parts stores.  How to Replace the Headlights on a 2001 Ford F-250

Open the hood and use the box wrench to loosen the retaining nut that secures the positive battery cable to the battery. Remove the battery cable from the battery to avoid electric shock.

Remove the cover on the rear of the headlight housing using your hand. The cover will be a gray, rubber seal with small tabs on its top and the bottom. Pull on the tabs and the cover will come off.

Remove the wire harness from the rear of each light bulb you are replacing by pulling with your hand. Remove each retaining clip from around the base of the light bulb by compressing the clip using your hand and pulling the clip off the base of the light bulb.

Pull the headlight from the housing and replace it with the new bulb. Replace the retaining clips and the wire harness. Replace the cover to the rear of the light.

Connect the battery cable to the positive connector and tighten the retaining nut using the box wrench. Close the hood.

 How to Change the Headlights in a Ford Escape

Release the hood latch to the Ford Escape and make sure the light switch is in the "off" position.

Open the hood and approach the passenger-side light bulb first. Replace this one first so you can see how it's done, because to get to the driver's-side bulb, you're going to have to remove the battery and battery hold-down.

Locate the wire harness plugged into the back of the headlight at the center of the headlight assembly. Squeeze the tabs on both sides of the plug and unplug the wire harness from the headlight.

Pull the rubber boot off of the back of the headlight assembly by the tabs.

Locate the retaining ring holding in the halogen headlight. Press the side of the ring with the lock tab and push slightly downward. It will swing open and allow you to remove the bulb.

Insert the new bulb (do not touch the glass of the bulb) into the headlight assembly by lining up the tabs. Re-secure the retaining ring to the locking tab.

Replace the rubber boot and plug the light back in. Turn the lights on to check the right headlight. Turn them off.

Repeat this procedure for the left headlight, but first remove the battery hold-down with a ratchet and socket, then remove the battery. Start by removing the negative cable first, then the positive. When replacing the battery, attach the positive cable first and the negative last, then replace the hold-down.

 How to Change the Headlight on a 2002 Ford F-150

Turn the 2002 F-150's headlight switch off and open the hood.

Locate the two retaining clips on the rear of the headlight assembly you wish to replace. Pull the clips towards the rear of the truck, then slightly upward (approximately ¾ inch).

Grasp the headlight assembly and slide it straight out of the front of the vehicle to expose the wiring connector at the rear.

Pull the wiring connector straight off the back of the headlamp assembly. Remove the headlight assembly from the front of the vehicle. Remove the bulb retaining ring by twisting it off in a counterclockwise direction. Pull the bulb straight out of the back of the headlight assembly.

Push a new bulb into the rear of the existing headlight assembly if you're replacing the bulb only, or install the bulb into a replacement headlight assembly. Replace the retaining ring and tighten it by hand in a clockwise direction.

Push the bulb wiring connector back into place on the back of the headlight assembly until it is fully seated.

Slide the headlight assembly back into place on the front of the truck. Push down and then forward on the retaining tabs to secure the assembly. Close the hood.

 How to Change a Headlight on a Ford Expedition

Locating, Removing, and Replacing a Headlight on a Ford Expedition

Lift the hood and make sure it is properly secured.

Lift the headlight retainers located on the top of the headlight housing unit. The retainers can be lifted by pressing them toward the windshield and upward.

Twist the ring, called the headlight bulb protective, counterclockwise and remove. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the entire headlight assembly. Twist the headlight bulb retainer counterclockwise to remove.

With a cloth or glove, remove the headlight bulb and then install the new bulb.

Work backward toward the assembly. Twist on the headlight bulb retainer by pushing and turning clockwise. Reattach the electrical connector. Twist the headlight bulb protective clockwise.

Replace the headlight housing unit and lock the retainers by pressing downward. After the new bulb is in place, turn on the headlights to ensure that it works.

 How to Change the Headlight on a 2005 Ford Focus

Open the hood of your 2005 Ford Focus. Remove the rubber boot on the back of the headlight assembly.

Squeeze the release tab on top of the power connector running to the back of the headlight ballast.

Pull the connector off the back of the headlight ballast.

Squeeze the tabs on the retaining clip that holds the headlight in place and pull the clip off the back of the headlight.

Turn the headlight counterclockwise and remove it from the back of the housing assembly.

Insert the replacement headlight into the back of the housing assembly and turn the headlight clockwise to lock it into the housing. The rest of the installation is the reverse of removal.

 How to Replace a Headlight in a Ford E-250

Sealed Beam

Turn the headlight switch off. Open the hood. Remove the two retaining screws on the upper side of the plastic headlight trim surround with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the trim surround, and set it and the screws aside.

Remove the four retaining screws from the metal headlight bulb retaining ring with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the ring, and set it and the screws aside.

Pull the bulb straight out of the housing. Pull the wiring connector off of the back of the bulb. Push the connector onto the prongs on the back of a new H5054 sealed beam bulb until it is fully seated.

Push the bulb into the headlight housing. Hold the metal retaining ring into place while affixing the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Replace the plastic trim surround and tighten the two retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Close the hood.

Aerodynamic

Turn off the headlight switch. Open the hood. Push the two headlamp retaining tabs back towards the engine, then lift them upwards to the stop position. Pull the headlamp assembly straight out of the front of the van.

Pull the wiring connector straight off of the back of the headlamp assembly.

Rotate the headlamp bulb retaining ring in a counterclockwise direction and remove it.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the headlamp assembly. Push in a new 9007 headlamp bulb. Replace the retaining ring and tighten it in a clockwise direction.

Push the wiring connector onto the back of the headlamp until fully seated. Push the headlamp assembly back into the headlamp bracket. Push the two retaining tabs downwards, then forward to the stop position. Close the hood.

 How to Replace a Headlight on a Ford Aerostar

Remove the screws that hold the headlamp trim bezel to the Aerostar using a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the trim off.

Remove the headlamp retaining screws with the Phillips head screwdriver.

Pull the headlamp assembly outward, away from the front of the Aerostar. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the headlamp assembly by hand.

Pop the bulb retainer off the back of the headlamp assembly. You may need to pry it off with a pocket screwdriver. Pull the bulb out from the back of the headlamp assembly by hand.

Insert the new halogen bulb into the back of the headlamp and push the retaining clip into position. Do not touch the bulb’s glass with your hand as skin oils can damage the bulb.

Plug the wiring harness into the new bulb and place the headlamp assembly back into position.

Reinstall the headlamp retaining screws, trim bezel and trim bezel screws in reverse of removal.
