How to Remove the Back Seat in Vehicles

While reasonably good looking and sporty, it was pretty standard K-Car in all respects but one. The LeBaron is credited by many as the car that saved the convertible top in America -- it was not just the best-selling convertible in the United States, but Vehicles one point it was the only convertible sold here. The Vehicles picked up where the LeBaron left off, bringing folding-top fun to the masses with a family friendly price tag. The Vehicles hydraulic folding top pump is behind the rear seat, and bound to go out sooner or later. It's not cheap, but Vehicles least it's pretty easy to get to.

 How to Remove the Back Seat in a 1990 Honda Accord

Locate the retaining bolt for the seat bottom in the center of the seat where the cushion and the seat back come together. Push the cushion down and insert a socket on an extension into the gap and on the head of the bolt. Remove the bolt.

Unlatch the steel hooks at the front of the seat cushion from the body of the car and pull the seat cushion forward. Remove the seat cushion from the car through the rear door opening.

Locate the three bolts at the base of the seat back. They are in the area where you just removed the seat cushion. Remove the three bolts with a socket and ratchet, set them aside and pull out on the base of the seat back.

Pull the seat back down and off the retaining hooks on the top of the seat back. Remove the seat from the passenger’s compartment, carefully working it out through the door opening.

 How to Remove the Back Seat From an Infiniti I30

Open the trunk and both rear doors of the Infiniti. Hold the seat bottom away from the back of the seat and lift directly up. It should unlatch itself fairly easily. Repeat for the other seat bottom.

Undo the bolts and hooks that are holding the seat back in place at the bottom of the seat back. If you do not find the bolts and hooks, you may have to access them through the trunk. Repeat on the other seat back.

Lift the seat back up and forward to remove it. Lift the seat out of the Infiniti. Repeat for the other seat back.

Unbuckle the safety belts and secure them near the sides of the vehicle. Folding the rear seat while the safety belts are attached can damage the belts and reduce their effectiveness.

Locate the seat folding lever on the back or the top of the rear seat. Pull the lever to release the seat back and fold it forward toward the front of the car until the lever clicks into place.

Locate the release latch on the bottom of the rear seat. Pull the release latch to detach the bottom of the seat from the floor of the car. Lift the rear of the seat up out of its slots.

Pull the seat toward the back of the car to disengage the hooks connecting the front of the seat to the floor of the car. Remove the seat from the car and set it aside.

 How to Remove the Back Seat on Your 2005 F150 SuperCrew

Park the truck on a flat and level surface. Turn the truck off and open the back door for access to the back seat.

Locate the lever on the side of the seat. Pull the lever, allowing the seatback to tilt forward to make extra room to work.

Unbolt the 10 bolts behind the seat with a socket wrench. There are three bolts on the right side of the seat. There are three on the left and four bolts along the length of the seat. Place all the bolts in a safe place so they will be available when you are ready to reinstall the seat.

Tilt the seat back to its original position. Instruct your assistant to lift one side of the seat to help pick it up and carry it out the door. Place the seat in a dry covered area to keep it safe from the elements.

 How Do I Remove the Back Seat on a 2005 Malibu Classic?

Open the trunk of the Malibu and locate the two cables behind the seat. Pull both cables until the seat pops out of place.

Access the front of the back seats. Pull the back seat down. Unscrew all the bolts behind the back seats to release it from the brace. Pull the seat back off the rear deck and out of the car.

Feel under the seat cushions for release tabs on both sides. Pull the release tabs to loosen the seat cushion. Push the seat belt buckles into the holes to prevent the seat from getting caught up in the seat cushion.

Lift the seat cushion up and out of the car. Place in a dry covered area.

 How to Remove the Back Seat of a Ford Taurus

Push the back seat cushion toward the rear of the Taurus. While pushing it backward, lift the cushion up to unhook the two metal pins securing the cushion to the floorboard.

Position the back seat cushion at a vertical angle, and then pull it out of the vehicle (you probably won't need help--the cushion is very light).

Pull the tab on the side of the rear seat to lower the back part of the seat. Grasp the seat and fold it down onto the floorboard.

Remove the seat bolts with a 10mm ratchet or wrench. There are four bolts in all: two on each side. These bolts will become visible when the seat is folded down onto the floorboard.

Position the seat back in its normal position (vertical). With the help of an assistant, lift the rear seat assembly from the Taurus and carefully set it down outside the vehicle.

 How to Remove the Back Seat of a Ford F-150

Remove the plastic cover off the seat belt at the top of the seat by prying it off. You will see the two 10mm bolts that hold the safety belt cover down.

Remove the two bolts that attach the safety belt cover to the seat and lift the safety belt cover off of the seat.

Remove the T50 bolt that holds the seat belt into position.

Move to the passenger side of the seat. Squeeze your arm between the side of the truck and the seat and grab the plastic piece that hooks the seat cushion into place.

Pull the plastic tab toward the back of the truck while pushing down on the top of the seat at the same time.

Move to the other side of the seat and pull the tab on that side.

Pull the seat straight up to detach it from the plastic hooks that hold it to the back wall of the truck.

Remove the seat from the truck, avoiding the bare metal at the bottom of the truck that can damage the seat.

 How to Remove the Back Seat of a Toyota Echo

Lift up the bottom edge of the seat cushion with your hands. It will pull up a few inches and may pop loose when you pull up.

Pull the seat cushion forward until the back edge of the seat clears the seat back. Push the seat belts down through the holes in the seat and lay them on the floor under the seat.

Lift the back edge of the seat and pull it toward you then slide the seat cushion out of the car. If your car is a two door, you may need to fold the front seat forward to get the seat out.

Locate the three mounting bolts along the bottom edge of the seat back. Remove the bolts with a socket and ratchet and set the bolts in a safe place so you can reuse them later.

Pull the seat back out from the bottom and release it from the car. Remove the seat back from the car through the door just as you did with the seat bottom.

 How to Remove the Back Seat From an Acura TL

Move the Acura TL's two front seats forward. This is not a required step, but it will give you a little extra room to maneuver.

Locate the seat cushion bolt and remove it with a socket wrench. This bolt should be on the right end of the cushion. You will have to pull open the crevice between the cushion and the seat back to see it.

Release two latches beneath the seat cushion. You will need to pull the release hatches forward to disengage them from their retaining hooks.

Remove the seat cushion.

Remove five bolts with a socket wrench. Three of these bolts will be at the bottom of the seat back. The other two are below the headrest, and you will have to go through folds in the upholstery to get at them.

Carefully pull the seat back forward and out one of the Acura's passenger doors.

 How Do You Remove the Back Seat in a Dodge Neon?

Removing the Bottom Cushion

If the Neon has four doors, open the back door and begin pulling out the seats. You will want to slide the passenger seat all the way forward and tilt the seat up if you are working on a two-door Dodge Neon. The bottom portion of the seat, held with clips, can be simply lifted out. Tilt the seat sideways to get it out of the car.

Removing the Backrest

The backrest portion of the back seat is held on by two bolts at the bottom of the seat. You will need a torque wrench to loosen these two bolts. Slide the receiving ends of the seat belts out of the way, as the bolts also hold the seat belts in place. Once the bolts are removed, you will be able to lift the seat up and pull it away from the back dash. The seat has clips on the top that allow it to rest in place in the back dash. Once you push up on the back seat this will free it. Slide the seat out of the car through the passenger side.

 How to Remove the Back Seat in a Toyota 4Runner

Locate the brackets on the front of the rear seat, where it connects to the floorboard, and use a small, flat screwdriver to pry the plastic covers off of the bolts securing the brackets. The brackets are below each seat cushion. There is one bolt on each of the four brackets. Set the plastic covers aside to use when you reinstall the seat.

Remove each of the four bolts on the brackets using a socket and ratchet. Set the bolts aside; you'll use them when you reinstall the seat.

Lift the front of the seat cushion and pull the cushion forward to remove it from the truck. Do this for both seat cushions on the rear seat.

Locate the bracket securing the back of the seat to the floor. It is in the center of the seat-back, where it meets the floor. You will need to be in the vehicle with your back toward the driver seat to locate it. Remove each of the four bolts securing the bracket to the floor using a socket and ratchet. Set the bolts aside.

Locate the two bolts on each outboard wall on each side of the seat; they are positioned at the seat base. Remove the upper and lower bolt on each side using a socket and ratchet. Place the bolts aside.

Release the seat-back latches at the top of the seat-back to fold the seat forward. Pull the seat directly out of the rear cargo area.

 How to Remove the Back Seat of a 2000 Ford Focus

Grab the top of the seat back on the passenger side and pull the seat back forward (toward the front of the Focus). When you pull on the seat back, it disengages from the retaining clips that secure the seat back to the steel trunk frame.

Grab the top of the seat back on the driver's side and pull the seat back forward (toward the front of the Focus.) This removes the second retaining clip from the metal trunk frame.

Lift up on the seat back and remove it through the passenger door.

Grab the base of the seat on the passenger side and lift up on the seat to pull the retaining pins out of the floor pan. Continue to pull up on the seat as you move from the passenger side to the driver's side. There are four retaining pins across the bottom of the seat.

Remove the base of the seat from the vehicle through the passenger door.

 How to Remove the Back Seat on a 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Put the convertible top down if you have one and it functions well enough to retract. Fold the front seats forward and slide them all the way to the front.

Put your hands on the front-center of the seat cushion, where the passenger would sit on either the left or right side of the car. Push back hard on the cushion, and lift the front of the seat cushion up. Remove it from the car, and repeat on the other side.

Look toward the bottom-center of the seat back, and identify the nuts that hold the seat back to the studs on the body. Remove them. Pull the bottom of the seat toward you far enough so that the mounts on the seat clear the studs.

Push up on the seat back to disengage its locking hooks from the body, and remove the seat back. You now have access to the convertible top hydraulic pump and mechanism.

To install, lower the seat back into position, aligning the center hook first. Push it downward until the mount holes line up with the studs. Push them down over the studs, install the nuts and tighten them to 29 foot-pounds with a torque wrench. Lower the seat cushions in place, and pull forward from the back to lock them in.

 How to Remove the Back Seat in a 2003 Cadillac

Open both rear doors. Push the front seats forward to give you room to work.

Lift up on the bottom cushions on the back seat while simultaneously pushing it toward the back of the Cadillac. This will unlock the seat. Remove it from the vehicle.

Remove the two bolts at the bottom of the seat back using a socket wrench.

Pull up on the seat back and slide it out of the vehicle.

 How to Remove the Back Seat of a 1992 Nissan Maxima

Flip down the center armrest on the rear seat back. On the lower part of the armrest, you'll find a hinge. Each side has a Phillips-head screw that attaches the armrest to the rear seatback. Remove these Phillips-head screws and pull the center armrest off.

Inspect the area the center armrest folds into. Look for two plastic screw covers. Pry these covers off with a flat-head screwdriver. There are two Phillips-head screws behind the covers; remove them to unhook the rear seat-back brace.

Pull up on the front part of the rear seat cushion to disengage the hooks. Then lift the seat cushion at a 45-degree angle and pull it out to disengage the hooks from the rear part of the seat cushion. This detaches the cushion from the floorboard. Pull the cushion out of the Maxima.

Remove the two Phillips-head screws from the bottom part of each bolster. These screws are visible when the cushion is removed. Pull or push the rear seat back upward to disengage its three hooks. Pull the rear seat back out of the Maxima.
