How to Replace a Front Motor Mount on Vehicles

There are three motor mounts and one torque strut on a Vehicles. The main engine mount is on the passenger side strut tower. There is another one on the lower back side that attaches to the engine cradle and to the lower block, one on the top of the transmission and a torque strut on the passenger side under the car. The torque strut, or dog bone, is used Vehicles torque control, not support. The strut that is being replaced is the primary mount located on the passenger side. It is mounted with a vertical bolt Vehicles the strut tower and a horizontal bolt Vehicles the engine. Always check all the mounts Vehicles torn rubber or metal-to-metal contact creating vibration through the car.

 How to Replace a Front Motor Mount on a Honda Odyssey

Drive both front wheels of the Odyssey onto ramps. Secure wheel chocks behind both rear wheels. (Alternatively, raise both front wheels with a jack and secure them on jack stands.) Open the hood of the Odyssey.

Place a jack under the oil pan, with a scrap of wood between the jack and the oil pan. Raise the jack slightly until the wood touches the pan.

Remove the four bolts below the front motor mount with a socket wrench. Remove the one nut above the front motor mount.

Raise the jack under the oil pan until the top motor mount bolt is free from the motor. Secure a jack stand or additional wood under the motor as a safety precaution.

Remove the motor mount by lifting and sliding sideways, up and out. Replace with a new front motor mount.

Replace the four bolts under the front motor mount and secure to finger tightness. Remove the jack stand from under the motor. Lower the jack slowly, allowing the upper motor mount bolt to slide into the front mount bracket. Remove the jack and wood.

Replace the upper motor mount bolt and tighten to 40 ft-lbs. (54 N-m). Tighten the four lower bolts to 28 ft-lbs. (38 N-m).

Jack the front of the car up and support on jack stands under the frame. Remove the splash pan under the radiator. The splash pan may be held on with small bolts or plastic plugs.

Remove the 15 mm nut on the top of the mount using the short 15 mm wrench. There is very limited room to get a tool on this nut, so if it is hard to break loose, use another wrench on top of the short one to gain more torque. You can also use a large screwdriver to gain leverage.

Remove the two bottom nuts on the motor mount where they go through the frame. Place the floor jack in the center of the rear of the engine cradle. The engine cradle has to be lowered in the front and back. Remove the bolts in the rear of the engine cradle one at a time, and then reinstall them by hand with seven or eight threads. Lower the jack and move it to the front, allowing the frame to hang on the loosened rear bolts. Remove and install the front engine cradle bolts in the same manner.

Move the floor jack to the forward side of the oil pan, put a 2 by 4 on the jack and raise it to the point where it is just touching the oil pan. Remove the nuts from the remaining motor mount and the transmission mount.

Raise the jack and lift the engine slowly up until there is enough access to remove the front mount.

Install the new motor mount and make sure it is turned in the right position so that the upper stud will go through the engine mounting plate. Put the lower nuts on the motor mount and tighten them.

Lower the jack while aligning the top bolt of the motor mount to go through the engine mounting plate. Tighten the loose engine cradle bolts. Put the top nut on the motor mount and tighten securely. Reinstall the lower splash shield.

Place the floor jack under the engine oil pan and position it close to the crankshaft pulley side of the pan. Raise the jack just enough to start lifting the engine.

Remove the new motor mount from the box and lay it close to the mount being replaced. The important thing in this procedure is to position the mount to go in exactly the same way. The mount is made in such a way that it can be installed either way. If installed upside down, it will work, but will also cause vibrations. Look at the new mount and note that the rubber in the center protrudes out one side much farther than the other. Look at the mount on the engine and see what side the protrusion is on. Make sure the new one goes in the same way.

Remove the nut from the horizontal bolt that is installed through the rubber. Raise the engine in very small increments until the bolt has no tension on it then remove the bolt. Remove the vertical bolt on the strut tower.

Install the new mount, making sure it is oriented the proper way as described in Step 2. Put the bolt and nut in the rubber portion of the mount. Put the vertical bolt in the mount. It is important to line the mount up in the center of the groove, as this is engine alignment. Torque the two bolts to 80 foot pounds. Lower the floor jack.

 How to Replace the Front Motor Mount on a Harley-Davidson

Use a motorcycle jack to make your motorcycle completely upright and level. Lift the front tire more than an inch off the ground.

Reach the front motor mount by partially removing the voltage regulator from the frame. Remove the two nuts that hold the regulator to the frame and the left-side harness wire only. Let the regulator dangle from the right-side harness wire.

Find the six upper and lower plate bolts that secure the mount to the motor and the frame. Remove only the three lower plate bolts and the stabilizer link bolt. Before proceeding, use a scissor jack and a block of wood to raise the motor about ¼ inch. Then use a 9/16-inch box wrench and 9/16-inch deep well socket with a breaker bar to break the two upper plate bolts. Replace the breaker bar with a ratchet to finish removing the bolts.

Remove the upper engine plate, then remove the old motor mount. You may have to raise the motor slightly to do this. Do not raise it any higher than you must.

Wipe all plate, frame and engine surfaces with clean rags and light oil. Replace the upper engine plates and install the new motor mount. Replace but do not securely tighten all bolts. Lower and remove the scissor jack and block of wood. Tighten the two upper plate bolts first, the stabilizer link bolt next and the three lower plate bolts last.

Reconnect the left-side wiring harness to the voltage regulator, and bolt the regulator back onto the frame. Carefully lower the bike and remove the motorcycle jack.
