How to Change the Headlamp on Vehicles

If one of the headlamps on your Vehicles Chevy Vehicles is broken or burned out, there's no need to take it to an auto repair shop. You can easily install a new headlamp yourself, even if you have limited mechanical skills and no tools. And you can do it in less than five minutes. The headlamp assembly consists of a single unit that contains both the high- and low-beam lamps. To replace one or both lamps, you swap out the entire assembly. No tools are needed.

Under The Hood:

 How to Change the Headlamp on a Chevy Uplander

Park the vehicle and turn off the engine. Open and secure the hood of the Uplander and put on the clean gloves.

Remove the headlamp retainer pin by rotating it toward the headlamp assembly and pulling it out. Use the screwdriver to remove the screw from the top of the headlamp assembly.

Pull the assembly out of the vehicle and disconnect the socket wiring harness connector from the rear of the assembly.

Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly.

Disconnect the bulb socket wiring harness from the old bulb by pulling it off. Place the wiring harness onto the replacement bulb.

Reinstall and secure the bulb socket by inserting it into the bulb assembly and rotating it clockwise.

Reconnect the socket wiring harness connector to the rear of the assembly and place it back into the Uplander.

Reattach the screw on top of the headlamp assembly and reattach the retainer pin. Close the hood.

 How to Change the Headlamp on a Nissan Titan

Park the Titan on a flat surface. Turn the steering all the way to the right if you are changing the driver's side headlight and all the way to the left if you are changing the passenger's side headlight.

Remove the screw in the fender liner under the wheel well. It is situated directly behind the headlight.

Pull back the fender line to access the bulbs. Disconnect the wiring plug from the bulb.

Rotate the bulb counterclockwise to remove it. Install the new bulb and rotate it clockwise to secure it.

Reattach the wiring plug and reinstall the screw in the fender liner.

 How to Change the Headlamp on a 2000 Silverado

Open the hood and locate the two retainer pins that hold the headlamp assembly to the mounting bracket. They are directly behind the assembly, on either side of it.

Twist the arms of the pins forward so the tips face the assembly. Pull the pins straight up to remove them from the mounting bracket.

Slide the headlamp assembly forward and locate the electrical connectors attached to the low- and high-beam lamps. Press on the center of the connectors with your thumb to disconnect them from the headlamp assembly.

Pull the headlamp assembly out of the vehicle.

Position the new assembly close to the vehicle and plug the high- and low-beam connectors into it.

Move the assembly into its permanent position within the car body. Be careful not to pinch the electrical connectors.

Reinsert the pins into the mounting bracket and twist them so that the tips of the pins face each other. This locks the headlamp assembly into the mounting bracket.

Turn on the Silverado's lights and check both the high- and low-beam lamps to make sure they illuminate. If one or both do not turn on, remove the pins, pull out the assembly and check the electrical connections. Once you're the sure the lamps work, all that's left to do is close the hood.

 How to Change a Headlamp on a 2007 GMC Sierra

Pull the hood release lever on the inside of the vehicle.

Lift the hood by pulling up on the secondary release lever located under the front edge of the hood. Prop-up the hood if necessary.

Rotate the retaining pins on the headlamp assembly and pull them out to release the headlamp assembly. The outer pin turns outward and the inner pin turns inward. Pull up on the pins after loosening them to remove them from the assembly. Save them for later.

Remove the headlamp assembly, and disconnect the wiring harness.

Rotate the bulb that needs to be replaced (high beam or low beam) counterclockwise, and remove it from the assembly.

Insert the replacement bulb, and turn it clockwise until it is snug.

Reconnect the wiring harness, and place the headlamp assembly back to its original location.

Reinsert the retaining pins to secure the headlamp assembly. The outer pin will now need to be turned inward and the inner pin will need to be turned outward. Make sure the pins are snug.

Close the hood firmly, and test the new bulb. Discard the old bulb.

 How to Replace the Headlamp on a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander

Turn off the Outlander's engine, and raise the hood.

Remove the plastic cover at the rear of the headlamp assembly by rotating it counterclockwise, and pulling it off. This will allow access to the headlight bulb.

Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise in order to remove it from the headlamp assembly. Pull the old bulb out of the socket, and use a clean cloth to install the replacement bulb. Do not touch the glass of the new bulb.

Place the socket back into the assembly, and twist it clockwise. Reattach the plastic cover, and close the hood.

 How to Replace the Headlamp on a 2002 Jaguar

Loosen and remove the bolts on the bumper cover of your 2002 Jaguar using a socket wrench. Slide the cover out of the way to access the headlights.

Remove the bolts from the headlight assembly with the socket wrench. Pull the assembly up and out at the same time to remove it easily.

Disconnect the windshield washer hose. Remove the clip on the headlight.

Disconnect the wiring harness and the headlight washer motor unit. Remove the old headlight assembly unit.

Replace the old headlight unit with a new headlight assembly. Follow the above steps in reverse to reconnecting all of the accessories. Reconnect the headlight washer motor unit to its previous position. Plug the wiring harness into the rear of the new headlight assembly.

Replace the clip on the headlight. Reconnect the windshield washer hose with the bolts to its original location.

Bolt down the headlight assembly. Slide the front bumper cover back into place, and tighten the bolts. Test the headlights to ensure they work properly before doing any night driving.

 How to Replace the Headlamp on a 2008 GMC Acadia

Turn off the engine and turn the light selector switch to the off position.

Open the hood of the vehicle and prop open. Remove the electrical connector at the back of the headlamp assembly by depressing the plastic tab and pulling straight back. Some side to side movement may be needed if the connector is especially snug.

Remove the protective dust cap on the back of the headlamp by grasping it and pulling straight back. This cover keeps dust and moisture out of the headlight housing, make sure not to damage it.

Remove the metal retaining clip by pushing downward and swinging it away from the bulb. Remove the bulb by pulling it straight back, being careful not to strike it against the headlight enclosure.

Insert the new bulb into the headlight assembly and swing retaining clip into place.

Reinstall the dust cap and ensure it is well seated by running your finger around the circumference.

Reattach the electrical connector. Applying a small amount of silicone lubricant gel will ensure the connector does not corrode and is easy to remove the next time. Repeat all steps for the other headlight bulb if needed.

 How to Replace a Headlamp on a Freightliner M2

Ensure the truck is parked on a flat and level surface and that the parking brake is set.

Open the hood for access to the headlamp. Locate the back of the headlamp on the back of the hood.

Unclip the wiring harness going in to the back of the headlamp assembly. The harness will unlock by pulling the clips apart and pulling off the headlamp socket.

Turn the socket counterclockwise and pull it out of the headlamp assembly. Replace it with the new headlamp and twist it in clockwise until it locks in place.

Push the wiring harness onto the back of the socket. The harness will lock in place as well.

Close the hood and secure it by locking the straps in place. Test the headlamp to ensure it is working properly.

 How to Replace the Headlamp on a 2005 Nissan Quest

Open the hood of your Nissan Quest. Rest the hood on the support rod while you are changing the bulbs.

Press the retaining clip and pull the electrical connection off the bulb socket. The electrical connector will pull straight off.

Grasp the bulb socket and turn it counter-clockwise until it is free of the headlight assembly. Pull the bulb straight out of the headlight assembly.

Install the new bulb into the headlight assembly and turn it clockwise until it locks into place. Press the electrical connection into position until it clicks.

Repeat the process on the opposite headlight if needed. Close the hood of your Quest and test the headlights to be sure they are functioning properly.

 How to Replace a Headlamp in a '96 Chevy 1500 Truck

Sealed Beam Headlight System

Remove the four screws on the front of the headlight retainer using a Phillips screwdriver and slide the headlight lamp and retainer out of the frame of the vehicle.

Pull the retainer off of the front of the lamp and unplug the electrical connector from the back of the lamp. Discard the lamp once the electrical connector is removed.

Plug the electrical connector into the new headlight lamp and slide the lamp into the frame of the vehicle.

Push the headlight retainer onto the lamp and insert the four screws to secure it.

Composite Headlight System

Open the hood of the 1500 and remove the two screws on the headlight support. The screws are located near the radiator support on the car frame.

Pull the headlight lens assembly out of the frame and unplug the electrical connector.

Turn the bulb to the left and pull it out of the socket. Discard the bulb after removal.

Insert the replacement bulb into the socket, turn it to the right until it is tight and plug the electrical connector into the back.

Slide the headlight lens assembly into the frame and reattach the two screws to the headlight support.

  • Replacement composite headlight bulb Model No. 6052

 How to Replace a Headlamp in a 2003 Honda Civic

Remove the power steering fluid reservoir by pulling it up out of the holder. Set the reservoir on a stable surface to prevent the fluid from spilling. This step is only necessary on the driver's side headlamp.

Locate the bulb and connector plugged into the back. Remove the electrical plug by pressing on the sides of the plug and pulling straight back.

Remove the headlight weather seal by pulling the tab located at the top of the headlamp enclosure.

Release the bulb retaining wire by locating the clip and pulling it down and away from the bulb. Pull the bulb out of the headlight assembly.

Insert the new bulb into headlight assembly. Ensure the bulb is properly aligned with the slots of the headlamp. Swing the retaining clip up onto the bulb, securing it in place.

Replace the weather seal by inserting it onto the socket with the word "Top" facing up. Ensure the seal is properly seated by running your hand around the edge of the weather seal. Failure to seat the seal fully will allow water into the enclosure, causing damage.

Connect the electrical plug to the new bulb by pushing it straight on. To verify proper attachment of the electrical connector, turn on the headlamps and observe that both headlights work.

Reinstall the power steering reservoir on the driver's side and close the hood.

 How to Replace a Headlamp on a Infiniti G35

Locate the black plastic rivets on the radiator support of the Infiniti G35 that are holding the grill and bumper in place. There should be 7 rivets.

Detach each of the plastic rivets with a flathead screwdriver until the grill and bumper are loose.

Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, in order to access the front driver's side fenderwell and remove the 3 plastic rivets with a flathead screwdriver that are holding the cover in place.

Remove the fender cover from the fenderwell and locate the 10mm bolts behind the fender cover that are holding the bumper in place.

Detach the bolts that are holding the bumper to the fender with a socket wrench and put the bolts in a safe place.

Locate the headlamp plug inside the fenderwell and detach the plug from the driver's side headlamp.

Pull the bumper forward and locate the four bolts that are holding the headlamp in place.

Remove the bolts that are holding the headlamp in place with a socket wrench and pull the headlamp away from the vehicle, unhooking the electrical harness from the back of the headlamp.

Attach the electrical harness to the back of the new headlamp and secure the headlamp to the vehicle frame with the bolts.

Place the bumper back into position and reattach the headlamp plug from behind the fenderwell.

Reattach the bolts in the fenderwell that are holding the bumper to the fender.

Secure the fender cover of the Infiniti G35 to the fender with the plastic rivets and then attach the grill and bumper to the radiator support with the remaining plastic rivets.
