There is no mistaking the deep and pulsating sound of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Since the company first began business in 1909 with the introduction of the first V-twin motor, Harley-Davison motorcycles have been known for exceptional quality and styling. Since the initial engine, Harley-Davidson motorcycles have introduced over 13 different engine styles that have adapted well with the ever changing and increasing style of these well-engineered bikes.
Twin Cam 96 Engine (TC96)
The Twin Cam 96 engine introduced in 2007 is the latest addition to the long line of efficient and durable Harley-Davidson motorcycle engines. It's 9:2:1: compression ratio combined with an electronic fuel injection gives this power plant the performance for which Harley-Davidson engines are known. Combined with the classic styling and bright polished chrome, this engine screams performance at the maximum RPMs. The 1584cc displacement, up 134ccs from the TC88s, has quiet operation and surprisingly good fuel economy.
The Revolution 2001 engine was introduced in the year 2001 and is a liquid cooled 1130 cc, 115hp powerhouse. This engine revs at 9000 rpm and has a high torque, while featuring a twin dual overhead cam with four valves per head. Electronically controlled fuel injection is just another added feature of the precision crafted and built engine. Liquid-cooling of the engine allows for maximum performance of this 1130cc gleaming, strikingly styled engine, available in black, chrome, silver and polished.
Twin Cam 88(TC88)
The Twin Cam 88s were introduced in late 1999 and remained in production until 2006. Engine displacement was a mere 1450ccs that far surpassed all competitor’s engines. The TC88 was Harley-Davidson’s most revolutionary engine ever produced and took the motorcycling world by storm. This new era of engines is available in black, chrome, silver and polished, all distinctive markings of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Although the engine was air-cooled, maximum performance was reached at relatively low RPMs, making for a quiet running engine that is reliable, durable and performance rated. EPA compliance of this and all engines produced by Harley-Davidson remains foremost in consideration for a cleaner air for all to breathe.
In 1986, the Sportster, the bike that put Harley-Davidson on the map and far ahead of all competitors received the Evolution V-twin motor. This engine, when first installed, was a 883-1100cc rated engine, depending on the model selected. In 1988, the Evolution received upgrades which boosted the cc rating to 1200cc, where it remains today. Impeccable styling of this engine combined with the overall appearance, including the new black and chrome color combination, set this bike on a path of instant success in the hearts of all Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts.
