Caterpillar Inc. manufactures heavy machinery and construction equipment, including trucks, trailers and large excavation vehicles. Caterpillar also manufactures and sells crate engines intended for industrial and street legal use. Labeled as "On Highway" diesel engines, these engines come in several variants suitable for heavy duty vehicles including trucks, buses and fire and emergency vehicles.
C7 Torque Specs
The C-7 is a turbocharged inline-6 engine that is capable of producing 520 to 925 ft-lbs of torque at 1,440 rpm. Its bore and stroke is 4.33 inches by 5.0 inches and it has a displacement of 7.2 liters. Its gross output ranges from 210 to 300 horsepower when equipped on trucks and buses, while output ranges between 300 and 360 horsepower when equipped on RVs and fire trucks. The C7 has a compression ratio of 16.5:1.
C9 Torque Specs
The C9 is a turbocharged inline-6, four-stroke diesel engine capable of producing torque ranging from 890 to 1,350 ft-lbs at 1,400 rpm. Its bore and stroke is 4.53 inches by 5.87 inches and its displacement is 9.3 liters. Depending on the vehicle equipped, the C9 is capable of generating 285 to 425 horsepower at either 2,200 or 2,300 rpm. Its compression ratio is 18:1.
C11 Torque Specs
The C11 engine is capable of producing a peak torque of 1,050 to 1,450 ft-lbs at 1,200 rpm. Its bore and stroke is 5.12 inches by 5.51 inches and its displacement is 11.1 liters. It is equipped with a Series Turbocharger and has a compression ratio of 17:1. Its gross output is rated at 305 to 370 horsepower at 2,100 rpm.
C13 Torque Specs
The C13 engine has a peak torque output that ranges from 1,150 to 1,750 ft-lbs at 1,200 rpm. Its gross output ranges from 305 to 470 horsepower at 2,100 rpm. Its bore and stroke is 5.12 inches by 6.18 inches and its compression ratio is 17.1:1. It has a displacement of 12.5 liters and also comes standard with the Series Turbocharger combustion system.
C15 Torque Specs
The C15 engine's peak torque ranges from 1,550 to 2,050 ft-lbs at 1,200 rpm and its gross output ranges from 435 to 625 horsepower at 2,100 rpm. Its bore and stroke is 5.4 inches by 6.75 inches and its compression ratio is 18:1. It is also equipped with the Series Supercharger and its displacement is 15.2 liters.
