How to Adjust Idle on a Nissan Pathfinder

Idle speed on your Nissan Pathfinder is controlled by the on-board computer and is not normally adjusted during a tune-up. However, if repairs are made that require a replacement throttle body or movement of the idle speed screw, the base idle speed will need to be adjusted so that the computer can accurately control the idle speed.
Step 1
Allow the engine to cool completely. The base idle speed must be adjusted with a cool engine on the Nissan Pathfinder. Unplug the idle air control valve located on the driver side, top of the engine, near the throttle body.
Step 2
Start the engine. Turn the idle speed screw on the right side of the throttle body, located on the driver side of the engine, counterclockwise to raise the engine speed or clockwise to lower the engine speed.
Step 3
Turn off the engine and plug the idle air control valve back in. Clear the stored trouble codes that were set by running the engine with the idle air control valve disconnected, using a code reader. Test drive the Pathfinder to verify that it doesn't stall at stops or with the air conditioning on.
